Pediatrics

The paediatrics department provides care management for newborns and children (up to 15 years of age) through:

  • consultations: on general paediatrics (with guidance for gastroenterology, pneumology, allergology, etc.), neuropaediatrics and paediatric urology. We also provide guidance for nutritional problems, such as food intolerances and allergies, diabetes, growth retardation, a difficult start with solid food in babies, or general bad eating habits.
  • hospitalisation:
    • on the paediatric ward: option available for a room shared by mother and child, entertainment (storytelling, puppetry, etc.), games room, school
    • in the department of neonatal medicine (for newborns requiring more specific care). Rooming-in option (room for mothers discharged from the maternity ward) in the maternity department

Close collaboration with the paediatrics department:

  • a physiotherapist
  • a psychologist trained in the management of children and their parents
  • Day surgery, where children stay when undergoing ENT (ear-nose-throat) surgery, urology procedures or cosmetic surgery, etc.
  • the paediatric psychiatry (mental pathology) department

Nutritional and dietary consultations for babies, children and adolescents

Babies, children and teenagers (from 0 to 16 years old) who have nutritional and dietary difficulties can visit our dietician Nacira Abdeslami. She will help them for example with food intolerances or allergies, diabetes, overweight, obesity or to find a balanced diet. Parents also contact the dietetic consultation service when their child is not feeling well or has difficulty practicing a sport. In this case, the problems can worsen and affect the child's health or mental well-being.

During an first one-hour consultation, Nacira listens to the child or youth, performs a few tests and discusses with the child or youth and the family what practical advice can be put in place. At each consultation, she continues to monitor the child's health and together they work out the next steps to be taken. If necessary, she collaborates with a physiotherapist or a psychologist. Good to know: the mutual insurance company reimburses obesity consultations for patients aged 6 to 17.

Consultations are held every Friday afternoon from 13:00 to 16:00 at the Meridien site. You can make an appointment via the secretariat of the paediatric department: pediatrie@clstjean.be or 02/221.99.73.
