Geriatrics route 450

In keeping with our programme of geriatric care, the Clinic Saint-Jean makes available a geriatric department comprised of 3 units at the Botanique location and 1 unit at the Léopold I location. The care units are structured in a cross-disciplinary manner for the management of elderly patients over 75 years of age who suffer from acute conditions that lead to imbalance in the functioning of their vital organs.

A combination of cross-disciplinary and trans-disciplinary methods is used as the optimal approach for sick patients and increases the person’s chances of regaining independence.

  • In-house liaising among a cross-disciplinary team of geriatric nurses, occupational therapists, neuropsychologists and  speech therapists for systematic screening of high-risk dependent elderly patients.
  • Geriatric evaluation of tumour patients leads to optimisation of the oncological treatment applied, and also serves to prepare a profile of external resources that are helpful to the patient.
  • Evaluation of geriatric orthopaedic patients with fractures will be used to put in place the resources necessary for the best functionality possible (therapeutic management by an osteopath, motor or geriatric rehabilitation, etc.
  • Outpatient consultations are used to address the concerns of the attending physicians.
  • The Geriatric Day Hospital is used for screening, treating and outpatient rehabilitation by a cross-disciplinary team of degenerative diseases in the elderly.

The cross-disciplinary teams are made up of geriatric physicians, geriatric nurses, speech therapists, psychologists, neuropsychologists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, social workers and dieticians. These dedicated teams are trained in the specific management of elderly patients and their families.
