Prostate treatment: REZUM therapy

Make an appointment

Our department of urology is the first one in Brussels and Wallonia to offer a minimally invasive vapour therapy to treat prostate problems.

What is REZUM?
The REZUM therapy has been developed by medical experts of Boston-Scientific and has been successfully applied in the past 5 years in the US and UK among other countries. The results are highly positive, and a large majority of patients are relieved from their symptoms.

The vapour therapy offers many advantages:

  • Minimally invasive
  • It takes only 10 to 15 minutes
  • Under certain circumstances, a local anaesthetic is possible
  • Very few side effects: the sexual function and the ejaculation are not compromised; postoperative symptoms are minimal.

For whom?
Patients suffering from a benign prostate hyperplasia can benefit from this therapy.

Why is it different from other techniques?
Two procedures are frequently used for prostate treatments: HOLEP and TURP. These techniques both aim a functionally optimal result: no urinary problems after the operation. However, in both cases the ejaculation disappears completely, which alters the sexual experience. The REZUM technique is less invasive, a large majority of patients are relieved from their symptoms and the sexual function is not compromised.

The size of the prostate will determine which technique to choose.

Which price?
Currently, the material used for the procedure is not refunded but, in most cases, the medical insurance will partly cover the cost of the treatment.
