International patients for heart surgery

Patients from all over Europe and around the globe come to the Brussels Heart Centre for cardiac surgery. We would like to make the process as easy as possible for you. We are committed to helping you make the best choices regarding your diagnosis or the recommended treatment. The aim of the Brussels Heart Centre is to receive patients while giving them rapid access to appointments.

International patients can request an appointment at the Brussels Heart Centre by telephone or e-mail. Very often, a medical referral is not compulsory in order to be given an appointment. Many patient make their own appointments at the Brussels Heart Centre. All appointments are given on the basis of medical priority.

Required information

If you are making an appointment, kindly give:

  • The name of the patient as shown on the passport (surname, given name, middle name)
  • Sex
  • Address
  • Date of birth
  • Patient’s telephone number
  • The attending physician’s name/address/telephone number/email address
  • The patient’s email address (if available)
  • Brief summary of the medical issue
  • The desired appointment date
  • Health insurance information – bring your insurance card or documents with you
  • Whether the patient requires an interpreter, and if so, in what language
  • Bring with you the documents from your diagnostic tests or procedures, and provide us with the most recent  tests (x-rays) and examination protocols used by your physician.

Required information:

  • Surgical protocols from the most recent cardiac operations
  • Coronary angiography: current film with protocol
  • Echocardiogram: protocol and current image(a video or CD-ROM will suffice)
  • Thallium nuclear imaging test: current x-ray and protocol
  • Chest x-ray, CT scans, ultrasound: x-ray and protocol
  • Electrocardiograms: current, if available
  • Electrophysiology test: current and protocols

Private consultation

You can make an appointment with the Heart Surgery Department Head, Dr. J. De Raet, at his private surgery for a personal opinion. Patients or their physicians can also request an appointment by e-mail or telephone.
