Geriatric-oncology nurse

The geriatric-oncology nurse, who is part of the cross-disciplinary team dispensing oncological treatments to the patient, will be handling the patients over 70 years of age.

From this age onward, a certain degree of frailness may be evident, and this can influence quality of life. To determine how frail the patient is, a geriatric assessment will be carried out in order to give advice and draw attention to the sensitive issues.

This geriatric assessment and the recommendations will be discussed with the patient and also relayed to the clinic’s physicians and the family physician. By factoring in the recommendations, we will be better able to maintain the patient’s quality of life during and after the various treatments.
