Skin cancer is currently the most common cancer and the fastest-growing cancer in Belgium. Clinic Saint-Jean offers One Spot consultations, available within two weeks. These appointments focus on examining one suspicious skin lesion ("one spot") to help detect skin cancer at an early stage.
Do you have a suspicious skin lesion?
One in five people will develop skin cancer before the age of 75. Due to ozone layer depletion, an aging population, risky sun-exposure habits, and increased travel to sunny destinations, the number of skin cancer cases continues to rise.
How can you reduce your risk of skin cancer?
-Avoid sun exposure between 12:00 and 15:00, and whenever the UV index is high.
-Wear protective clothing, a hat, and sunglasses.
-Apply SPF 50 sunscreen every two hours and allow it to absorb for at least 30 minutes before going out in the sun.
How can you recognize a suspicious skin lesion?
The ABCDE rule can help you identify warning signs:
Asymmetry: Can the spot not be divided into two symmetrical halves?
Border: Does the spot have an irregular edge?
Color: Does the spot have different colors (white, grey, pink, red, shades of brown, or black)?
Diameter: Is the spot larger than 6 mm?
Evolution: Is the spot changing rapidly?
Have you identified a suspicious lesion?
Clinic Saint-Jean offers One Spot consultations, available within two weeks. During these appointments, a dermatologist examines one suspicious skin lesion to help detect skin cancer as early as possible.
In just 10 minutes, the dermatologist assesses the lesion and determines whether further follow-up is needed. When detected early, skin cancer can generally be treated successfully.
How do I schedule a One Spot Consultation?
A referral from your primary care physician or a specialist is required, unless you are already being monitored by one of Clinic Saint-Jean's dermatologists.
Appointments can only be scheduled through our Contact Center: +32 2 221 92 21 - Monday through Friday, 8:00 to 18:00.
